Behind The Wheel

Behind the Wheel is a 7 day course with each session being 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observation. The last day will be the road test for students.
If a student takes behind the wheel during school hours, it may be more than 7 days. The cost for behind the wheel is $300 and can be paid by cash, check (made out to Brooke Point High School), or online payment. 

BEHIND THE WHEEL REGISTRATION FORM

Dear All,

I would like to inform you that registration for the 2026 Summer School Behind-the-Wheel program will open on Monday, Apr 20, 2026 at 8 a.m.

To be eligible, students must have completed Classroom Driver Education (including the required parent/teen meeting) and possess a valid Virginia learner’s permit. Please note that enrollment is first come, first served and sessions tend to fill quickly.

Although there are approximately seven weeks remaining in the school year and we may be able to accommodate some students who are currently signed up for Behind-the-Wheel through their PE class, we will not be able to serve all students during the school year. Therefore, we strongly recommend completing the summer school registration form. If your student is scheduled during the school year, they can be removed from the summer list. The registration link is provided at the bottom of this page.

For planning purposes, session dates are listed below. Each session runs approximately two hours per day, with both morning and afternoon time slots available:

  • Session 1: June 1 – June 10
  • Session 2: June 15 – June 24
  • Session 3: June 29 – July 8
  • Session 4: July 13 – July 22
  • Session 5: July 23 – July 31

  • Student Information Required to know when filling out the form

  • Full Name
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Date of Learners Permit Issuance (found under their height on the Learners Permit)
  • Academic Year During Which the Student Completed Classroom Driver Education

  • Students that turn 18 before Jul 31, 2026 will not be eligible to take behind the wheel.

    For students or parents looking to get another copy of their driver education certificate (DEC-1). Please email Matt Tucker at  tuckermb@staffordschools.net  or Kim Gaughan at gaughankl@staffordschools.net  After certificates are made, they can be coordinated to be picked up in our main office during school/office hours.
